The Cadbury Sisters preview upcoming EP Sarah with new single "Drifting" [Premiere]
Bristol's The Cadbury Sisters, known for beguiling harmonies and folk-tinged beauty, embrace sparkling dream-noir atmospheres with new single "Drifting", taken from upcoming EP Sarah.
It's a dazzling, piece of piano-led pop with rattling snares and Daughter-like frailty. Gone are their folky leanings, replaced instead by ambient basslines and the waifish whispers of synth; the focus is kept on vocal harmonies, but instead of acoustic backing, we see the three-piece enveloped in breathtaking sounds.
Speaking about the new EP and track, the trio said:
"For the new EP our influences are coming much more from bands like Bat For Lashes and HAIM rather than anything that could be considered folk. So I'd say this EP is definitely "pop" and 'Drifting' is very much a transition song which acts as a bridge between our old melancholic sound and our new, more upbeat direction... the song is about the passive breakdown of a relationship, and that moment where one or both people involved suddenly realise that something’s changed past the point of no return. It’s about the slow but sure decay of friendship when paths of communication become blocked for too long, and that feeling of utter loneliness that comes from being together in the same space physically, but worlds apart emotionally."
The Sarah EP is out on 15 June via Fear Of Fiction.
