Stream Dolores Haze's convention-defying debut album in full [Premiere]
Following the success of their Accidental EP earlier this year, Swedish outfit Dolores Haze are certifying themselves as masters of their dynamic with the release of their debut album.
Opening track "Reaching Placebo" combines meandering rhythms with chiming guitar solos and soaring melodies, whilst anthemic title track "The Haze Is Forever" tears through the band's garage punk aesthetic with a raw energy that's nothing short of compelling. But for a taste of just how huge this band are capable of being, look no further than the stadium-sized intent of "Crazy About Me".
Switching between measured percussion and gentle vocal melodies ("On Purpose"), vast layers of distorted guitars ("Touch Me"), electro-infused dance punk ("I Got My Gun"), and tight and punchy riffs ("Milk"), Dolores Haze are impossible to tie down. They've everything they want to be, as and when the mood takes them. It's this bold sense of character that makes them so easy to fall for.
Make no excuses - this debut record isn't consistent or cohesive, but it showcases a band seemingly capable of anything. If this is what the first record sounds like, then here's hoping "Forever" is more than just in the name.
The Haze Is Forever is released tomorrow (13 November). Stream the record in full below.
