Listen: Joe Innes & the Cavalcade - "Wake the Dead"
Joe Innes has been a fixture on the London folk scene for the last few years but we’re finally hearing his sound assemble into something more definite and interesting-piquing with upcoming EP Brian I’m A Genius Too, released under the Joe Innes & the Cavalcade name.
Lead track “Wake The Dead” bustles along shanty-style with a masterful and confident melody - and features an excerpt from Peter Finch’s lynchpin rant in Network and a lyrical lift from Gloria Gaynor, which can only be a good thing.
The EP is also titled for a Wilson family quote and that’s another reference point we can happily get behind, even if it is from the elder Wilson father whose idea of raising his children did leave much to be desired.
Brian I’m A Genius Too is released on 16 June 2014.
