Listen: Jape - "The Hearts Desire" (Peaking Lights Remix)
Dublin-based electronic outfit Jape are well into their eleventh year of life, with main songwriter, musician and producer Richard Egan currently residing in the florid lands of exciting pop: Malmo, Sweden.
Inspired by the new surroundings, Jape are set to release their new album This Chemical Sea next year. In the meantime, the first single “The Hearts Desire” gets the remix treatment by none other than your favourite psych-pop husband and wife duo, Peaking Lights, premiering today on Best Fit.
The plus seven-minute oeuvre has a kind of tribal quality with its enticing beat and looping vocals that'll put you in a groove-induced trance. Vocal snippets, Moroder-esque synth progressions and samples of the original’s bouncing keyboards spice up the original electronic ditty, transforming it into a journey through a jungle of polyrhythms and samplers.
Speaking about the remix, Jape said: "Peaking Lights have been one of my favourite bands for a long time. I felt like they'd be the perfect choice to have a mix at this track because it was built from the bass up and, for me, Peaking Lights are all about the bass and those 40hz. frequencies. I was really glad they agreed to remix it and think they did as usual an amazing job."
Peaking Lights said: "This was a really fun remix to work on!!! Kind of knocked me from out of the blue. Hope the remixe's end result manages to do the same."
