Dutch duo HATY HATY get "High As The Sun" on their debut track [Premiere]
Based on their respective bodies of work, longtime friends David Douglas and Johannes Sigmond (aka Blaudzun) might seem strange musical bedfellows.
Douglas’s penchant for slickly produced electronic explorations was evident on last year’s debut full length Moon Observation, while Blaudzun has built a name on heartfelt indie anthems that soar toward similar strata as Arcade Fire. On “Higher Than The Sun”, however, their debut track as HATY HATY, the duo complement each other in unexpected and exciting ways.
Douglas played subtly with psychedelic and experimental elements on Moon Observation, but his work behind the boards in HATY HATY puts those tendencies more prominently on display. An elastic bassline is stretched, popped, and looped again and again over a swinging beat reminiscent of that first album’s “Chenab River”, and Blaudzun lets his wounded, contorting vocals - so often heard stretched precariously over anthemic guitars - settle perfectly in amongst the seductively ominous haze.
HATY HATY’s debut album High As The Sun will be released 11 March via V2 Benelux and Atomnation.
