Listen: Akiine - "Swans" [Premiere]
Populated by the same saccharine vocals and swaying calypso rhythms as debut track "Sunglassey", "Swans" marks the return of Akiine, a truly unique artist who quietly continues to perfect her craft.
Having not heard anything from Akiine (full name Akiine Kivelä Ngarambe) since last October's "Frid", we were worried that she might have slipped away before really surfacing but new track "Swans" - taken from her forthcoming official debut release - puts those fears to rest.
The four-track EP is due out this Autumn on Bad Life (Petite Noir, Fé, and D/R/U/G/S), and if "Swans" is to be the measure of what to expect from the London based, Sweden born singer then we can look forward to dreamy, gentle pop numbers whose organic percussive rumblings are rounded off with glossy synth chimes and those quivering gossamer vocals. Welcome back Akiine.
You can catch Akiine live at Oxjam Dalston's Servant Jazz Quarters show on 12 October.
