This week the French-Canadian fuzz-rock duo, Solids, leaked “Traces”, the first track from their upcoming debut album, Blame Confusion.
Xavier Germain-Poitras and Louis Guillemette, the two young Montrealeans who make up Solids, have made a track that is a release in every sense of the word; not only is it the first offering from their debut full-length, but it is a warm, thumping number that purges all the stress of a hard day at work. The distorted twee-melody over the constantly driving rhythm combination will surely go down well with fans of Dananananaykroyd, but while the latter use six members to create such a sound, Solids achieve the same with two.
It must be added that it is slightly unfortunate that the band seem unable to escape their reviewers’ tendencies of citing fellow Canadians Japandroids as sources of influence. But given that both bands are Canadian duos that make fuzzy garage-rock, the link is a natural one.
If Solids wish to rid this blogosphere-stigma it will be their responsibility, and “Traces” does not seem to suggest that they have made this departure.
Blame Confusion is set for release 17 February 2014 via Fat Possum Records.
