Four Tet’s Kieran Hebden has been quiet lately, and we don’t mean music-wise. Having snap-released his Beautiful Rewind LP a few months back, he’s hardly done any promotion, instead opting for minimalist strategy.

This week, however, he conducted a rare interview with BBC Radio 6 Music, discussing his self-released album, as well as reasoning behind cutting off the music industry as a whole.

“I’ve put out a lot of records now, working with big labels and little labels, and over the last few years I’ve started self-releasing records,” Hebden tells Stuart Maconie. “I wondered what would happen in this day and age when releasing a record, if you just abandoned the things that you don’t like or feel comfortable with. I don’t send any promos to anybody, I don’t work with any marketing company.”

He continues: “Obviously I’m in a very privileged position where I can get away with stuff like this because I have a big audience. But I just want to enjoy everything as much as possible and have enough time to make music.”
